It’s so easy to talk ourselves out of something before we even begin, isn’t it? A new idea, a business dream, a trip that feels a little too “big”.

As I thought about how many faces have come through our doors this month, I was reminded that these are the moments I dreamed of when we designed this house! I imagined our space being used for connection, laughter, and creativity. It’s why we were so intentional with how we built (and styled) it. Not to make it perfect, but to make it open.

I was set on stone floors… then I found old fencing milled into planks. Now Connor’s office feels warm, moody, and full of story.

What’s the most unexpected material you’d use in your home?

This cabinet doesn’t “match” the rest of the room.

And that’s exactly why I love it.

In our kitchen, there are two arched openings that lead into the pantry, one on each side. From the beginning, I dreamed of having matching cabinets tucked inside those arches—something special, something with character. Of course, finding two antique cabinets that matched perfectly? Nearly impossible. So I figured we’d design them.

Part of the magic of shopping at Paris flea markets lies in how it incorporates the art of slow decorating. It isn’t about rushing to fill a room. It’s about wandering until you find the piece that feels like it’s been waiting for you. Sometimes that means crossing the ocean for the treasure that will carry your story home.

You may have noticed on Instagram that I’ve been traveling a lot lately. From exploring Italy with my family to helping my daughter move into her new NYC apartment, the last few weeks have been filled with moments I’ll never forget. It’s been so fun! 

Summer is funny, isn’t it? It wants to inspire us. The longer days, golden evenings, slow mornings… they all quietly invite us to notice the beauty around us.

But it’s easy to find ourselves just pushing right through it, isn’t it? We get busy. We move fast. We “mean to” make time for creativity, and suddenly summer feels like it’s slipping by.

Sure, you can type any destination into Google and get a list of “must-see spots.” You can follow a guidebook, hop from landmark to landmark, check the boxes, and come home with a phone full of pictures. You can book the flights, stay in the hotel everyone recommends, and eat at all the popular

It’s so easy to not LET ourselves be inspired. 

Despite the longer days and lingering sunshine that is practically begging us to notice, we stay busy. We move fast. We tell ourselves we’ll make time for the fun, creative things later.

My latest blog started as a reflection while I was driving from Birmingham to Florence… and basically turned into a love letter to the version of Alabama most people never see (or expect).

Connor and I are starting with two days in Rome which is exciting with the announcement of the new Pope. We’ll visit the Vatican (it’s a Jubilee year, which is apparently a big spiritual pilgrimage year in the Catholic tradition?) and go on a secret food tour, which feels like the thing to do in Italy. 🍝
