You don’t need a reason…
I came across this reel on Instagram recently (linked here), and I don’t think I’ve loved something so much in quite some time—at least not something I saw while mindlessly scrolling. 😂
It made me think about how often we say things like, “Wow, you look nice…what’s the occasion?” when really, the occasion might just be going to the grocery store. Or in my case, heading to the flea market.
I’ve always giggled when people call wearing a dress “fancy,” because honestly, it’s the easiest thing to throw on. Sometimes it’s just fun to embrace our personal style and dress up more than we should.
The reel reminded me: maybe it’s time to reframe our compliments. Instead of asking about the occasion, simply say, “You look great” or “I love your outfit.” It’s a tiny shift, but it makes the person on the other end feel celebrated instead of questioned.
And why stop with clothes? The same goes for pulling out your “good” dishes, pouring a Tuesday night drink into a pretty wine glass, or having your morning coffee in the cute teacup you found at your local antique market.
The bottom line? We don’t have to save joy for some special day.
So here’s my little nudge: dress cute just because. Use the pretty dishes. Make everyday life feel worth celebrating.
And if you do, I’d love to see it 🤗 Tag me @lucysinspired.
