Around Here | Issue No. 010

Welcome to Around Here. Each week, I'm sharing a glimpse into what I've been collecting, creating, and discovering, from antique finds and home projects to time in the studio and travels that inspire what's next.

COLLECTED & CURATED

Lots of work at the camp house last weekend! I took the table from the back porch to the camp house, it looks so good with the light fixture from Black Sheep.

We also stopped by the storage unit and emptied it. It had some chairs we took with us and a butcher block that Connor's grandfather gave us. It's the heaviest thing ever, and right now, it's upside down! We're brainstorming how to flip it. I think we can roll it right side up and then, with straps and 4 of the young guys, get it set up. Fingers crossed! We're definitely adding casters so we can move it more easily later.

IN THE STUDIO

I dropped off more collages to the framer. I'm on a roll!

I've been so inspired that I'm creating a new collection, coming next month. Color is involved! Stay tuned for the details, and follow me on Instagram to see sneak peeks.

If you've been wanting a piece from my first collection, Collected Fragments, there are 5 on my website now, and 20 at Christopher Collection. They're keeping them in stock and filling in the 20-piece wall as they sell. I also sold 2 this week and shipped them off to their new homes.

I pulled out my encaustic materials and played with the wax on my collages. I haven't figured out how I want to use it yet, but it's so fun to play with texture!

And a little studio upgrade: my back had been hurting, so my husband cut blocks to raise my work table 5 inches. I rearranged the whole room while I was at it. Being able to stand up straight makes such a difference!

THE INSPIRED LIFE

Coming up this Thursday, October 15: I'm teaching Create for a Cause at Gallery Annette in Homewood, from 5:30 to 7, benefiting Christopher Kids! There are plenty of seats left, so get signed up. It's going to be the perfect night out with the girls. Hang out with us, enjoy a charcuterie board and wine, and go home with a one-of-a-kind piece of art! I'd love to see you there.

Save the date: a holiday open house on December 5, from 5:30 to 7! More details soon.

I'm reading Hollywood, Ending. I've been seeing all of John Green's interviews, and I love his view on humans making art. Watch the video here. This is what I pulled from it.

We make art because every human voice matters. You are rare.

I know the cost of making art.
I know it makes you vulnerable.
I know it can hurt. But I’m grateful to you for making art anyway.

Please keep doing it — making art, stories, YouTube videos.
Please make stuff.
Please share it.

Because art is how we survive what we have to survive.

If you knit or paint or write, or in any way transform the raw materials of the world into creative expression, I want to say thank you.

— John Green

What I've been wearing lately:

  • I love these Maeve Colette pants, and so do you! Several of you bought them last week! What color do you like?

  • I'm still wearing these Pilcro Adi pants into the fall.

  • I wore this jacket to church because I've been dying to wear it. It was just cool enough, and it's always chilly in church! I had to take it off walking to the car because it had already hit 85 degrees!

Thanks for being here.
I love sharing these little sparks with you.
If something here inspired you, I'd love to hear. Just hit reply and tell me.

XO,
Lucy
