I walked into a local boutique a few days ago that was all decorated for the holidays and couldn’t help but let out a little sigh and think, “Remember when that’s how we ALL shopped?” 

So if you’re pulling out the bins too, here’s your gentle reminder: you don’t need to buy all new things or make it look like anyone else’s. Start with what you love, and let the rest unfold.

As I thought about how many faces have come through our doors this month, I was reminded that these are the moments I dreamed of when we designed this house! I imagined our space being used for connection, laughter, and creativity. It’s why we were so intentional with how we built (and styled) it. Not to make it perfect, but to make it open.

The best design moments happen when plans change.

I was set on stone floors… then I found old fencing milled into planks. Now Connor’s office feels warm, moody, and full of story.

What’s the most unexpected material you’d use in your home?

This cabinet doesn’t “match” the rest of the room.

And that’s exactly why I love it.

In our kitchen, there are two arched openings that lead into the pantry, one on each side. From the beginning, I dreamed of having matching cabinets tucked inside those arches—something special, something with character. Of course, finding two antique cabinets that matched perfectly? Nearly impossible. So I figured we’d design them.

Part of the magic of shopping at Paris flea markets lies in how it incorporates the art of slow decorating. It isn’t about rushing to fill a room. It’s about wandering until you find the piece that feels like it’s been waiting for you. Sometimes that means crossing the ocean for the treasure that will carry your story home.

I’ll be honest—there’s nothing quite like the thrill of discovering a perfect vintage find. The kind that makes your heart skip a beat, your palms a little sweaty, and your brain go, “Wait, am I about to transform my entire space with this piece!?” Yes, yes you are.

A friend actually asked me the other day what my favorite things I found at the vintage shops and flea markets in Paris were, and while it was so hard to narrow it down, HERE THEY ARE! 

Confession: the number of times I’ve said something along the lines of “just throw it in the office!” over the past few months is too many to count. 

It’s been nine years since my best friend and I were on HGTV’s show, Beach Flip, and honestly? It feels like it was yesterday.

Being on the show was one of those pivotal moments in my life and career, annnnnd in honor of it being almost an entire DECADE since it happened (🤯), today I want to spill the tea on what it was actually like being cast and produced by the one and only, world-famous HGTV.

Here’s how it went down…

Battling doubts in my mind, I asked for measurements and mentioned that I’d need to consult my husband. I even expressed the need to envision it in our new home space. With a promise to REALLY consider sealing the deal, I began to exit the tent, only to realize I was running late to meet up with our group. Hastily, I explained the situation to David, and he offered to reserve it with my credit card if I was serious about purchasing. With butterflies in my stomach, I gave him my word, knowing I'd have to follow through.

Building a new house with old things is not just about construction; it's about crafting a home infused with nostalgia, sustainability, and a deep sense of connection to the past.
