Around Here: 16 Collages Sold, Antiques in the Garden & Gee's Bend
Welcome to Around Here. Each week, I’m sharing a glimpse into what I’ve been collecting, creating, and discovering, from antique finds and home projects to time in the studio and travels that inspire what’s next.
COLLECTED & CURATED
Y’all, I came home with some goodies this week! I stopped in at one of my favorite little antique booths, Sweetwater General at Finders Keepers. Elizabeth is a really good dealer and always has a great booth. I bought two rugs and a basket from her.
I also found a shadow box frame for $30. That was an amazing deal!
There is camp house progress, too. On Saturday I dropped off the lighting and the plumbing fixture for the drainboard sink. It’s slowly coming together!
And I’m working on the next Build a New House with Old Things video. This one is all about the apothecary cabinet from France in my kitchen. Watch for it on Instagram Friday!
WANDER & GATHER
What a week for getting out and about!
On Thursday, I went to see my mom for her birthday. We spent the day in Cullman, which is how I ended up at Finders Keepers. (Funny how that happens!)
On Friday, I went to Antiques in the Garden at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. It’s one of the best events of the year, and everything was amazing! I got to see Barbara from Black Sheep Co. I didn’t buy a thing, but it’s so inspiring every single time. Next year I’m taking a friend. It’s more fun with a friend, for sure.
On Saturday, I headed to the camp house and went straight to the Gee’s Bend Quilt Festival. It’s always a good time and such an inspiring place.
IN THE STUDIO
I can’t believe I’m typing this. I sold 16 more collages at Christopher Collection last week! I took 16 more to restock, so there are 20 there now. If you’re in Birmingham, you can go see them in person. I’m so grateful.

That leaves only 7 that aren’t at the store, and I’ve put those on my website. I’m shipping one off this week, too.
So of course I got right back to work. Over the weekend, I finished a bunch of new collages, around 20 or so! They’re going to the framer by the end of this week. More on those soon!
In my Jane Monteith class this week, I played with encaustic on a collage. I still need to mess with how it’ll work, but I love the texture it adds. I’ve been inspired to use encaustic in one of my next collage releases!
THE INSPIRED LIFE
Coming up: I’m teaching Create for a Cause on October 15 at Gallery Annette in Homewood, benefiting Christopher Kids! Let’s raise money and create a project to take home. More details soon. I’d love to see some of you there.
I’m also thinking about hosting a holiday decor workshop during the week in November, and I want to pick a day that works for you. Leave a comment and tell me which weekday is best, and whether you’d rather come during the day or in the evening.
And I’ve been thinking a lot about the 100 Day Project and how it’s changed me in ways I never could have imagined. I’m working on a blog post about it, so stay tuned.
What I’ve been wearing on repeat lately:
My new Ruti corduroy pants in chocolate plum. They’re so comfortable, and I love the color.
My Jenni Kayne slip dress in black is on rotation, especially this time of year. It’s great to throw on with a jacket or sweater.
The Maeve Colette pants are always a winner. I have the rust color, which looks almost sold out, but the froth and powdered cocoa both look amazing!
I can’t wait to wear this Solset Co skirt from Evereve!
Thanks for being here. I love sharing these little sparks with you. If something here inspired you, I’d love to hear. Just leave a comment!
XO,
Lucy
