The Best Reason to Stay on Great Exuma on Sunday?

The Best Reason to Stay on Great Exuma on Sunday? We have been going to Great Exuma for 6 years.

The Exuma islands are some of the most beautiful islands I’ve been to in my life. The water is the bluest in the world! When most people think of The Bahamas, they think of Atlantis, a theme park with casinos. Ahhh, there’s so much more to The Bahamas than Atlantis or a resort like Baha Mar.  The Bahamas is a nation comprising over 700 islands, 16 of which are tourist destinations.  The Exumas are part of the out islands, also known as the Family Islands, which make up 365 of the islands!

We have had the pleasure of visiting a lot of the out islands from Great Exuma to the Abacos.

We had a pretty big scare in April of 2017 and we decided life is short so we bought a boat! We move our boat to the Bahamas in January and visit once a month until we move it back to the states in July. Hello, hurricane season! We have gotten to go on so many adventures discovering blue holes, sea life, and sea shells!

There’s so much to do in The Exumas besides relaxing on the beach, which is the least exciting thing to do! The water there is stunning blues, just being near it makes you want to capture it and take it home. The locals are incredibly friendly and helpful and make you feel so welcome. It's one of the safest places in the world. They love the tourists and want you to feel safe and at home!

We have a driver that we always call. He is so friendly and can set up rides for as many people as you need. We just went with 18 people and everyone made it to the house and back to the airport! A lot of us wanted to get left behind! Let me know if you want his information and I can pass it along.

Having a boat is not necessary but it makes the adventure so much more fun. You can rent a boat from Brown's Marina or Mim's Marina. If you can't don't want to get a rental for a day or two, you can take the ferry over to Stocking Island to eat at Chat n Chill or Peace and Plenty! Both are great places to hang out for a few hours for lunch and a Goombay Smash or Rum Punch!

We usually stay in a house in February Point because we have our own boat and need a dock to keep it overnight. It's a beautiful neighborhood on a point where you can enjoy views of the sea. Depending on which house you stay in, you might have a beachfront, a pool, or a ladder to climb into the water and swim with the turtles! They love lettuce, btw!

There are a lot of options on Great Exuma and we hope to explore a few new houses this season while we are there. You can find information on places to stay on VRBO, Airbnb, and if you are interested in February Point, they have houses on their rental program.

We have friends that just stayed at the Sandals resort and really enjoyed it. They play golf and that's a plus if you like to play.

Where to Eat:

We love the Rusty Anchor located inside February Point, Blu is a great restaurant overlooking Moriah's Harbour. The views are breathtaking!

Friday night you'll want to go to Shirley's Fish Fry for a local experience. There are several options for fresh Bahamian fish and a dance bar to work off dinner!

The Best Reason to Stay on Great Exuma on Sunday. This is our favorite event of the week! Chat n Chill has a pig roast on Sundays. Locals and tourists alike swarm the island on Sunday to get fresh pork, delicious macaroni and cheese, peas n rice, and slaw. It's a must-do if you are going to be on Great Exuma any time of year. You can grab fresh conch salad at the conch shack. While they make it fresh, you can pet the sting rays or feed them a little conch! They are tame and love for you to pet them!
